“Tenakoga is rising!” said Gibson Apusae, Tenakoga Adventist College Principal, enthusiastically.  “Two years ago our academic standards were not at satisfactory level.  We had limited fresh water, limited electricity infrastructure and generation capacity, and staff and students had to walk over 300 metres to the river for washing and bathing.  We had a library but it had few resources and was not well organised.  It was also difficult for us to employ quality teachers.”

Over the past two years Tenakoga has undergone a massive transformation. Its infrastructure has been upgraded significantly.  Its academic standards and results have increased in a marked way and its library has been organised and many teaching resources and reading books added.  “It is hard to comprehend the scale of the transformation, “Mr Apusae said.

Projects of Promise works in partnership with the Solomon Islands Capacity Building (SICB) project in the Solomon Islands. SICB has a heart for creating opportunities and building pathways out of poverty through improved educational outcomes in the Solomon Islands.

SICB’s work in the Solomon Islands includes investment in key infrastructure and learning facilities which in the long-term will, directly and indirectly, impact a significant proportion of the population.
